Field Placements
- Students working in a field placement are typically unpaid, and support staff members in either a full-time or part-time capacity under the supervision of the employing organization.
- Field placements work in placements between 2 and 16 weeks.
Benefits of a Field Placement
A field placement is a great option if you do not qualify for funding, or only require a student for a few weeks. These students can provide as little or as much support as you require.
An Example of a Field Placement
Pierre, a database administration student, works with an employer for 2 months to tackle their growing data needs.
During his field placement, Pierre is able to provide his employer with an efficient and scalable system that provides a safe and responsive solution to their long term data needs.

Program Example
Alberta University of the Arts’ Design Field Placement aims to provide students opportunities to apply their skills and knowledge, develop new and valuable ones, as well as gain a deeper understanding of their field of interest and themselves. In this self-directed work-integrated learning experience course, students will propose and complete a field placement related to their studies with the direction of a faculty advisor.
