Many supports and programs, such as Canada Summer Jobs and Mitacs, can provide funding to help you hire a student. This page is your one stop shop for all of the local, provincial, and federal government grants that can help you bring student talent into your organization.

Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ)

CSJ is a program under the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy, which aims to provide flexible and holistic services to help all young Canadians develop the skills and gain paid work experience to successfully transition into the labour market.

Organization/Student Role: Nonprofit employers, private and public sector employers registered with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The organization must have a CRA payroll deductions program account (RP) prior to hiring students through the CSJ program.

Alberta WIL Vouchers

The Government of Alberta introduced the Work Integrated Learning Industry Voucher Pilot Program, to help students get the job-ready skills they need while providing Alberta-based employers with access to local talent. It will provide employers with a grant of up to $5,000 per student placement, which is matched by the employer. Additionally, there is grant stacking with any of the Federal Wage Subsidy Programs.

Student Work Placement Program (SWPP)

Student Work Placement Program (SWPP) funding offsets the costs associated with hiring and training students in meaningful work experiences by providing reimbursements. This Government of Canada funding is administered by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) through 17 Employer Delivery Partners.

MITACS

Mitacs funds Interns to undertake Applied Research projects (Accelerate program) OR Innovation projects (Business Strategy Internship program) under the supervision of an Academic Supervisor with a Sponsor Organization (the industry partner).

Employment programs that stimulate environmental career pathways, skill development, and business growth.

EMC WILWorks

The WILWorks Student Program is designed to incentivize employers to offer more student positions.

Canadian Media Producers Association

Wage subsidies to engage students on a full- or part-time basis, providing a flexible approach to working with students.

Cultural HR Council

Subsidies help employers hire post-secondary students by providing wage subsidies of 50% to a maximum of $5,000.

Ontario Chamber of Commerce

Designed to help employers located anywhere in Canada hire college and university students on WIL placements.
